Hello from the future (poster)
Created for a limited poster series by the East Phillips Urban Farm in September 2024.
“Investing in our children, the future generations. I heard that there are plans for a coffee shop where the youth would be able to work, and I really like that. They could get jobs close by. It would give them experience and boost their self-esteem when they’re making money and learning at the same time.”
Nicole Mason (Wahbeegonisikwe — Yellow Flower Woman), Red Lake Nation. Mother, grandmother, resident of Little Earth in East Phillips.
Based on Mason’s beautiful vision of jobs and opportunities for future generations, and in conversation with neighbors and organizers, this poster imagines the food forest that will tower over what was the Roof Depot in the East Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN.
Here we see just a glimpse of the forest: a tool shed and a few gathering and working spaces nestled between waves of harvest and canopies of abundance. Families and neighbors share in veggie farming, perennial medicine harvest, fruit and nut picking, composting, making jam, soup-making, eating, laughing, looking.
good group work.
joyous birdsong.
a happy food forest.
